Postmenopausal women are usually treated by a total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.
Ovarian fibromas are almost always benign. They may be treated by resection from the ovary in a young woman.
The uterus and contralateral ovary may be preserved in younger women with stage I malignancy provided that associated endometrial adenocarcinoma has been excluded by dilatation and curettage.
Effective chemotherapy for these tumours is not yet available.
