Physiological roles
Androgens have the following physiological effects:
- male sexual differentiation of the fetus e.g. development of male external genitalia
- pubertal changes in the male: growth and development of secondary sexual characteristics
- fertility in the adult male e.g. maintenance of spermatogenesis
- maintenance of secondary sexual characteristics e.g. beard growth
- male libido
