Hymen
The hymen marks the embryological boundary between:
- Mullerian-derived structures superiorly, and
- structures derived from the urogenital sinus inferiorly
In the virgin, there is a central perforation of varying size.
The hymen is ruptured during coitus and childbirth.
Hymenal tags are called carunculae myrtiformes.
