Incidence
- following an elective amputation e.g. vascular disease, tumour
- the statistical risk of chronic pain initially is over 80%; this risk reduces to about 55% after 3-5 years (1)
- it is presumed that the risk of chronic pain following traumatic amputation is the same (2)
