In initial radiology of rheumatoid arthritis only osteoporosis and soft-tissue swelling behind the joints may be apparent.
As the disease progresses there is narrowing of the joint spaces and small periarticular erosions may occur. In the wrist, osteoporosis may be most evident.
In late stage disease bony destruction and deformity are evident.
