  • chest x-ray - appear as sharply described round or lobulated densities within the lung parenchyma. Dilated (feeder) vessels may be observed connecting the malformation to the hilum
  • Valsalva and Muller manoevures - size of lesion changed by alteration in intrathoracic pressure during fluoroscopy; can suggest the diagnosis
  • CT scanning with bolus contrast injection and rapid sequence imaging - accurate method of diagnosis
  • pulmonary angiography - method of choice; necessary to confirm the diagnosis
