Treatment and prophylaxis
Treatment:
- high dose corticosteroids
- antithymocyte globulin
- monoclonal antibodies
- cyclosporin and/or thalidomide in chronic disease
Prophylaxis:
- cyclosporin +/- methotrexate
- removal of T cells from the graft
Adverse prognostic factors:
- thrombocytopenia
- raised serum bilirubin
- progressive presentation
