Difficult and dangerous situations include dealing with:

  • disturbed patients
  • violent patients
  • patients with transmissible infections, particularly HIV and hepatitis B
  • accident sites such as road traffic accidents

Precautions:

  • make sure someone knows where you are and when you should be back
  • keep out of danger at accident sites
  • assume patient is HIV and HBV positive - use gloves
  • keep your HBV vaccination up to date
  • ensure adequate help and medication are immediately available
