Differential diagnosis
It is important to distinguish primary depression from secondary depression.
Primary depression is not caused by another disorder but may result from a genetic predisposition interacting with the social environment.
Secondary depression may be caused by:
- organic disease
- other primary psychiatric diagnoses
- drugs
