Revaluation of general practice

Authoring team

A survey by the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1994 identified 3 areas that make the GPs undervalued:

  • the process of education (undergraduate and postgraduate) leaves junior doctors unprepared for general practice
  • problems during a GP career e.g. lack of a career path and difficult relationships with partners
  • increased workload

An RCGP working group is attempting to address these areas via working with universities, the GMC, and health authorities.
