Indications
These include:
- disabling symptoms of bladder outflow obstruction that have not responded to conservative treatment
- acute retention (usually recurrent episodes or unsuccessful trial of removal of catheter
- high pressure chronic retention with obstructive uropathy and progressive renal failure
- heavy haematuria ascribed to prostate
