Side effects
The side effects of sodium bicarbonate include:
- tissue necrosis at the site of injection
- must be administered alone, after careful flushing of lines and followed by careful further flushing
- metabolic alkalosis
- hypokalaemia
- increased cerebrovascular resistance
- impair catecholamines' actions
- worsen intracellular acidoses
