Clinical presentation may be asymptomatic or may feature:

  • recurrent sinopulmonary and gastrointestinal infections, especially if there is IgA and IgG2 deficiency
  • autoimmune disease:
    • rheumatoid arthritis
    • systemic lupus erythematosus
  • sprue-like syndrome with steatorrhoea, or coeliac disease
  • there is often an increased incidence of atopic illness which may be reduced in patients who were previously breast fed
