Clinical features
This condition presents with sudden onset of illness in children under a year old, with features as follows:
- prodome with listlessnes, diarrhoea, vomiting, pyrexia
- circulatory collapse and shock, which is resistant to normal resuscitation measures
- encephalopathy - coma, hypotonia, fits
- acidosis
- impaired renal and hepatic function
