Pharmacodynamic variation
Pharmacodynamic variation of drug activity instigating side effects may be seen in the following situations:
- hepatic disease - able to enhance effects of drugs on CNS - e.g. opiates in cirrhotics can cause encephalopathy
- altered fluid and electrolyte balance - e.g. digoxin and potassium
