Authoring team

Preoperative preparation should include:

  • the protocol of the day unit
  • fasting
  • need for an accompanying person
  • transport
  • postoperative restrictions on driving and the use of heavy machinery, HGVs in the succeeding days
  • avoidance of alcohol

This data, together with advice for example, about possible complications and when to return to work, can be given to the patient in printed form and is reinforced verbally by the preoperative assessment.
