Follow-up appointments for contact tracing programmes
The following patients should be offered a follow-up appointment in contact tracing programmes:
- after 1 year for tuberculin positive close contacts of sputum smear positive cases
- tuberculin negative contacts should be given a tuberculin retest after 8 weeks:
- if tuberculin conversion has occured then they are treated for TB
- patients aged less than 35 who remain tuberculin negative should be given BCG vaccination
