Generally, prognosis is thought to be worse than that of metastasis-free patients if the axillary nodes contain micrometastasis i.e. metastasis only detectable microscopically. Similarly, prognosis is thought to be worse with increasing size of the deposit within the node or extension of the tumour outside of the node.
