ECG (anaesthesia)

Authoring team

An ECG is indicated in patients with the following conditions:

  • ischaemic heart disease
  • hypertension
  • rheumatic fever
  • respiratory disease, e.g. smoker or pulmonary hypertension

Contentiously, a screening ECG in all patients over 40 years of age has been recommended. An ECG in patients older than 50 years is of more certain value, but individual anaesthetists have there own preferences.
