Prednisolone and immunosuppressive agents may be used but the response is not as good as that seen with giant cell arteritis. Complications such as hypertension and heart failure should be treated conventionally.
Angioplasty, reconstructive surgery and endarterectomies may be undertaken.
The long term prognosis is good with most (>90%) surviving longer than 10 years after the onset of symptoms.
