Aetiology
The aetiology of retroperitoneal fibrosis is as follows:
- unknown in the majority of cases
Associations:
- drugs e.g. methysergide, bromocriptine, methyldopa, beta-blockers
- carcinoid tumours
- fibrotic diseases e.g. mediastinal fibrosis
- sometimes associated with an inflammatory aortic aneurysm, e.g. chronic aortitis
- there may be association with radiotherapy
