Aetiology of recurrent pain
Possible causes of recurrent abdominal pain in childhood include:
- psychological or non-organic, accounting for the majority of cases
- constipation
- urinary tract infection
- coeliac disease
- abdominal migraine
- giardia and other chronic infection
- irritable bowel syndrome
- inflammatory bowel disease
Other rare possibilties include:
- pancreatitis
- cholecystitis
- lead poisoning
- porphyria
- ovarian cysts
