The stomach and duodenum are palpated in the epigastrium. Note:

  • the tenderness of peptic ulcer disease
  • a mass that may signify carcinoma
  • in the neonate, the pyloric tumour of pyloric stenosis, best felt after a meal
  • a succussion splash in gastric outflow obstruction
