Prognosis
Overall 1 year survival:
- children 80% (approx)
- adults 60% (approx)
Note that the cause of the liver failure was the most important variable in predicting survival:
- liver failure in patients with paracetamol poisoning and fulminant hepatitis A is the best with figures over 50%
- poorest prognosis was in patients with non-A,non-B hepatitis and those with idiosyncratic drug reactions (20-30%)
