In high output heart failure the heart is required to service grossly increased requirements. Heart failure results because the heart fails to satisfy these requirements. This type of heart failure will occur in a normal heart as well as a diseased heart, but failure will occur more quickly if there is pre-existing cardiac disease.
The management of high output heart failure aims to reduce the volume overload and correct the underlying disorder.
