The diagnosis is confirmed by an arteriogram.
First line methods of treatment include emobolizing the lesion with stainless steel coils, Gelfoam or infusion of analogous blood clot through a catheter in the hepatic artery.
If these fail, either direct ligation of the bleeding point or proximal ligation of an upstream branch of the hepatic artery is advised.
