Gynaecological conditions which resemble acute appendicitis include:
- in the non-pregnant female:
- pelvic inflammatory disease; compared to appendicitis:
- tends to occur in proliferative phase of cycle
- pain more generalised
- longer duration
- higher fever
- more pain on displacement of cervix
- torsion, haemorrhage or rupture of an ovarian tumour
- pelvic inflammatory disease; compared to appendicitis:
- torsion of a Fallopian tube
- Mittelschmerz
- Mittelschmerz
- during early pregnancy:
- threatened abortion
- retroverted uterus
- ectopic pregnancy
- fibroid degeneration
- during late pregnancy:
- labour
- ruptured uterus
- abruptio placentae
