Principles
The principles of an exclusion diet are:
- basic diet is continued for 2 weeks - during this period the patient maintains a diet of symptoms and foods eaten
- after the 2 week period, there is a gradual reintroduction of food items one at a time, at an intervals of 2 days
- tinned and packet foods should be avoided because of possible preservatives
