Post-stenting management

Authoring team

The patient who has undergone endoscopic stenting for biliary strictures must have perioperative parenteral antibiotics continued for several days. It is vital that fluid intake is adequate.

Regular clinical assessment is mandatory to ensure that the stent is functioning, e.g.:

  • stool and urine colour changes
  • decrease in pruritus
  • clinical and biochemical indexes of hyperbilirubinaemia decrease
