Treatment regimens
The treatment groups were:
- 50% allocated to unfractionated heparin:
- half received 5000 IU twice daily
- half received 12500 IU twice daily
- 50% allocated to "avoid heparin"
In a factorial design:
- 50% allocated to 300 mg aspirin daily
- 50% allocated to "avoid aspirin"
