Nasal septal injury

Authoring team

Nasal septal injury may result in deviation of the nasal septum, causing airway obstruction.

Septoplasty or submucosal resection (SMR) is the treatment if no external deformity exists and is carried out after a period of weeks or months.

If the septal displacement is accompanied by external nasal deformity which is maintained by misplaced septum then the septal displacement must be corrected surgically before any reduction of the nasal bones can occur.

A septal haematoma may result from nasal injury.
