Management
Immediate:
- airway patency, adequate ventilation, and overall stability of the patient should be ensured (1)
- assessment of related injuries
- control of epistaxis
- inspection for, and treatment of, septal haematoma
- cleansing and suturing of lacerations
Later - assessment and correction of nasal bone fracture:
- is deformity present
- is the patient concerned about any deformity
- does the patient habitually fracture their nasal bones, for example, a boxer or footballer, in which case correction may be futile
Note that x-rays of the nasal bones are not indicated in isolated nasal bone fracture but should be requested if concomitant fracture to the nasal skeleton is suspected.
