Examination under microscope
Examination of the external ear under the microscope is a common procedure in ENT.
A speculum is placed in the external ear and the pinna retracted.
The good lighting and magnification facilitate:
- dewaxing of the external ear canal
- removal of foreign bodies
- minor surgery e.g. myringotomy and grommet insertion
- suction removal of debris from the ear
