Anti-cardiolipin syndrome
This is a rare variant of lupus erythematosus characterised by recurrent thromboses, thrombocytopenia, cerebral disease, in particular stroke, and in females, a poor obstetric history with multiple abortions.
Commonly, a livedo reticularis is present. Affected individuals demonstrate circulating antibodies to cardiolipin and the lupus anticoagulant.
