  • poorly absorbed - generally given parenterally or topically (neomycin may be given orally for its effect on the gastrointestinal tract)
  • elimination is almost completely renal and so dosages should be reduced where there is renal impairment (use creatinine clearance as guide eg if creatinine clearance is 50ml/min then dose is 50% of usual dose in normal functioning kidneys)
