Trauma
All of the following types of trauma can cause upper airway obstruction:
- prolonged endotracheal tube intubation leading to subglottic stenosis
- gunshot wounds and cut throat
- inhalation of steam or hot vapour
- swallowing of corrosive fluids
- radiotherapy causing laryngeal oedema
