UKPDS 38 trial
The objective of the UKPDS-38 trial was to determine whether tight control of blood pressure prevents macrovascular and microvascular complications in patients with type 2 diabetes.
The trial randomly assigned patients to:
- tight control of blood pressure aiming at <150/85 mmHg
- less tight control aiming at <180/105 mmHg
The drugs used were ACE inhibitors or beta-blockers.
