Treatment of osteoporosis in breast cancer sufferers
Hormone replacement therapy is relatively contraindicated in women with a history of breast cancer. After appropriate counselling they may opt to take HRT.
Tamoxifen however will offer some preservation of lumbar spine bone density and there is some evidence to suggest that these patients are at a lower risk of osteoporosis.
Raloxifene may have a role, since it has been shown to lead to a decreased incidence of oestrogen recptor positive breast tumours.
