Aetiology
Precipitants of a thyroid crisis may include:
- upper respiratory tract infection
- stress
- radioiodine treatment
- recent thyroid or non-thyroid surgery in a patient whose hyperthyroidism has not been adequately controlled or recognised
In other cases, no precipitating factor may be found.
