T4, total, raised
Conditions associated with raised T4 include:
- hyperthyroidism
- increased binding proteins:
- pregnancy
- women taking oestrogen
- women taking some oral contraceptive pills
- anti-T4 immunoglobulins
- transient hyperthyroxinaemic states:
- acute medical / psychiatric conditions
- high altitude exposure
- drugs - amiodarone, amphetamines, iodinated radiocontrast dyes, propylthiouracil, glucocorticoids
- foetus and neonate
