Side effects
The side effect profile is generally mild and include:
- nausea (2%)
- breast discomfort (2%)
- hot flushes (11%)
Usually reassurance is all that is required.
There is a risk of multiple pregnancy associated with clomiphene use (8%).
Serious possible complications of clomiphene use include ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and visual disturbances (spots and flashes and, rarely, visual impairment). The patients should be warned to cease administration immediately should these disturbances occur.
