Site
Site is important because certain skin diseases tend to have characteristic sites.
Thus:
- extensor surfaces of the elbows and knees, also the scalp, nails and gluteal cleft is typical of psoriasis
- flexor surfaces such as the antecubital and popliteal fossae implies atopic eczema
- scalp, eyebrows and nasolabial folds implies seborrhoeic eczema
- lesions on exposed skin imply conditions caused by sun exposure, ranging from malignancy to drug induced rashes. Sparing of shielded sites may be seen.
