In this condition the bald skin appears normal (apart from the hair loss) and the normally visible follicular orifices are preserved.

Causes include:

  • alopecia areata
  • trichotillomania
  • scalp ringworm - some causes of tinea capatis may result in scarring alopecia
  • traction alopecia
