Trauma to nails can result in:
- splinter haemorrhage
- subungual haematoma
- nail avulsion
- onychogryphosis
- onycholysis
- habit tic nail dystrophy: a repetitive behaviour results in damage to the nail cuticle due to persistent rubbing; transverse ridges are seen
