Minocycline is a tetracycline.

Cautions include:

  • breast-feeding
  • hepatic impairment - avoid intravenous use
  • may cause photosensitivity

Contra-indications:

  • AVOID IN CHILDREN UNDER 12 YEARS OF AGE
  • pregnancy
  • systemic lupus erythematosus
  • porphyria

Routes of administration:

  • Oral Tablets

Minocycline is not recommended for use in acne as it is associated with an increased risk of drug-induced lupus, skin pigmentation and hepatitis (1).
