Investigation
The diagnosis of a hypertrophic scar is made on clinical features alone of a prominent, erythematous, pruritic scar that does not extend beyond the anatomical bounds of the original injury. Rarely, a histological biopsy may help in confirming a diagnosis and excluding rare differentials such as dermatofibrosarcoma protruberans.
