Hair-shaft defects
Fragility of the hair shaft may arise in a number of congenital conditions. Monilethris - beaded hair - and pili torti - twisted hair are the most common.
Diagnosis is by light microscopy. Topical agents tend to be ineffective. Gentle handling and a short hair style may be helpful.
