Aetiology
The aetiology may be congenital or acquired, thus:
- Down's syndrome
- congenital rubella syndrome
In some other conditions, maintenance of the VSD is essential for survival:
- double outlet right ventricle
- transposition of the great arteries
It may also occur as complication of myocardial infarction or trauma.
