Continuous wave doppler
- transducer transmits a continuous ultrasound stream in a single direction and simultaneously receives the echoes continuously.
- records very high velocities of flow.
- it cannot be range-gated - thus it superimposes on the display all signals caused by any reversed or forward flow patterns occurring over the scanned region.
- drop in pressure across a stenosed valve is proportional to the increase in velocity across it (this is calculated using the modified Bernoulli equation: pressure drop = 4 v^2).
