Saccular aneurysms are spherical dilatations which project from one aspect of the affected vessel. They vary between 5 to 20 cm in diameter.
Saccular aneurysms are the result of processes which affect only part of the circumference of the vessel wall. Their lumen is connected with the lumen of the affected vessel through an opening of varying size. As a result, flow through the aneurysm is turbulent and thrombosis is common.
Berry aneurysms are a subtype of saccular aneurysms.
